Helen Krasner
Helen has been writing for most of her life. At the age of seven, a teacher thought her short stories were so good that she took them home for Christmas to show the family - unfortunately she then lost them! Five years later, when she was 12, Helen had her first article published in a national newspaper, and after that she never looked back.
However, Helen has always done many other things besides writing. She has travelled the world, visiting around 70 countries. She has a degree in psychology and has worked as an occupational psychologist, she has been a meditation teacher, and she worked in marketing and market research for some years. She practises yoga, has a longstanding interest in complimentary medicine, and has been a cat owner for around 30 years. She also flies both small aeroplanes and helicopters, and holds a Commercial Helicopter Licence and Instructor's Rating. Helen combines all these interests - and many others - in her writing for Suite 101, where she is the Topic Editor for Aviation but also writes on a wide variety of other topics.
Helen also writes for a number of magazines, and in 2004 one of her aviation articles was short-listed for an 'Aerospace Journalist of the Year' award. She writes regularly for the magazine 'Pilot', and has monthly slots in Flight Training News and HeliNews. Her work includes flight test articles, instructional features, and profiles of famous pilots such as Jennifer Murray, Polly Vacher, and Lettice Curtis. She is also the former newsletter editor for the British Women Pilots Association.
Helen used to instruct part time for Staffordshire Helicopters at Tatenhill Airfield, near Burton-on-Trent, in the East Midlands in England. In addition she has written a book, "The Helicopter Pilot's Companion", which was published by Crowood Press in October 2008, and followed by a second book, "Flying Helicopters - a Companion to the PPL(H)" in August 2011. These are not her first published books; that honour goes to Midges, Maps and Muesli, an account of a 5,000 mile walk around the coast of Britain which she completed in 1987. Signed copies are still available from helenkrasner2@gmail.com. All three of these books are also available on Amazon.
Helen is also a volunteer 'cat socialiser' for Ashbourne Animal Welfare Society, and contributes regularly to their magazine and other cat magazines. And - in her spare time, when she has any - she runs a small craft business, making and selling Pixelhobby kits and supplies. Pixelhobby is a fairly new and rapidly growing craft from Holland, which enables you to make mini-mosaics using your own pictures and photos. See Helen's website for further details and buying information. .
Feel free to email Helen about any of the above, at helenkrasner2@gmail.com. In particular, she is always happy to consider further writing work.
